J.C. Turner received a Purple Heart after being wounded in World War II. That means he is eligible for free medical care for life at veterans hospitals. His transportation is provided by the local chapter of Disabled American Veterans, which is raising money for a new van to take veterans for treatment in Atlanta and Tuskegee, Ala.
